Croatia awards market premiums for 420 MW in solar and hydropower projects

The Croatian Energy Market Operator (HROTE) has awarded premiums for solar and hydropower projects with a total capacity of 420 MW, though no wind farm projects received subsidies. The initial quota offered was 607 MW.

In the auction held in April, HROTE received 144 bids totaling 713.38 MW in network connection terms. Of these, 110 bids were deemed valid, and premiums were granted to 92 projects with a combined capacity of 419.06 MW.

The auction had two support measures: one for market premiums for solar power plants, wind farms, and hydropower plants over 1 MW, and another for smaller projects.

For solar projects, which had a quota of 350 MW, bids totaled 577 MW. Premiums were awarded to nine projects with a combined capacity of 330 MW, including:

  • RP Global (15 MW Novalja)
  • Aurelis Solis (130 MW Obrovac Sinjski)
  • RP Global (9.99 MW Rudine I)
  • SE Promina (150 MW Promina)
  • Nova Duga (9.99 MW Zabok 2)
  • Cent (9.99 MW Zabok 1)
  • Krcevine (Krcevine 3, 4, 5 with 1.99 MW each)

In the hydropower category, with a quota of 7.25 MW and bids totaling 8.85 MW, two projects with a combined capacity of 4.55 MW received subsidies.

For wind power, with a quota of 60 MW, only one offer was received, which did not meet the requirement of at least three valid offers.

The average reference price for solar power plants was 56.54 euros/MWh, while for hydropower plants it was 158.3 euros/MWh.

The second segment of the auction targeted wind farms with capacities from 200 kW to 18 MW and solar power plants from 200 kW to 6 MW for micro, small, and medium enterprises or renewable energy communities. No wind farm offers were received, but 81 solar projects totaling 83.52 MW were awarded premiums, with an average reference price of 77.78 euros/MWh.

Selected investors must submit construction guarantees to HROTE within 15 days, with the guarantee amount set at 39,816 euros/kW.
