Unit 5 of the nuclear power plant Kozloduy was taken offline on 30 April for scheduled maintenance and should be offline until the beginning of June. The 1.000 MW unit will undergo preventative technical servicing and repair, functional and operational testing, and check-ups. In addition, the reactor will be reloaded with fresh nuclear fuel.
NPP Kozloduy’s other 1,000 MW unit 6 will continue to operate according to schedule. Following a brief downtime for a planned repair of the steam generator, unit 6 was put back into service on 22 April,
Bulgaria’s sole nuclear power plant Kozloduy operates two Russian-designed VVER-1000 reactors of 1,000 MW each. Their operational licenses will expire in 2027 and 2029, respectively.
