Bulgaria, Underground natural gas storage facility at Chiren was 48.86 % full

According to data from the Aggregated Gas Storage Inventory, on 2 August, Bulgaria’s underground natural gas storage facility at Chiren was 48.86 % full, which is 0.56 % higher compared to the previous month.

By comparison, Portugal and Poland had filled their storage facilities at 100 % and 99.1 %, respectively, followed by Denmark (88.78 %), France (80.45 %), Italy (73.58 %), and Germany (69.92 %). The EU average is 70.54 %. Of the 778.6 TWh gas in storage EU-wide, Chiren holds 2.83 TWh.

EU member states are required to fill at least 80 % of their underground gas storage facilities by 1 October and 90 % by 1 November.

The working gas volume of the Bulgarian facility is between 5.8 and 25 TWh and the daily injection is 32.34 GWh. The daily injection capacity is 38.18 GWh, and the daily withdrawal capacity 40.3 GWh.

Bulgaria’s natural gas consumption in 2020 amounted to 33.587 TWh.
