Bulgaria, Simultaneous achievement of full decarbonization and energy security is impossible without nuclear power

Bulgarian caretaker Minister of Energy Rossen Hristov said at the Ministerial Meeting in Zagreb within the Three Seas Initiative that the simultaneous achievement of full decarbonization and energy security is impossible without nuclear power, adding that Bulgaria has been successfully and safely operating its nuclear power plant for more than 40 years now.

Minister Hristov said that Bulgaria is also planning to develop new nuclear capacities. This is part of the country’s vision for the development of the electricity sector over the next 30 years. The decision is based on comprehensive analyses and projections of consumption, taking account of the decarbonization targets and safeguarding the country’s energy and national security, as well as ensuring the lowest possible price of electricity.

He stressed that diversification is essential for the security of energy supplies, adding that staking on a single supplier always poses risks: technical and geopolitical.
