Bulgaria: Rezolv Energy announces major solar power project

British-based Rezolv Energy has secured contracts with three companies for the construction of the 229MW St. George solar power plant in Silistra municipality, northeastern Bulgaria. The project will see CMC Europe and Solarpro serve as engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) partners, while Green Solar Energy will handle high-voltage work.

Rezolv Energy has indicated that construction is set to begin shortly, with plans to bring the power plant online next year. Additionally, the company will sign a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the electricity generated by the facility.

In July 2023, Rezolv Energy acquired the rights from Bulgarian company YGY Industries to develop and operate the 229MW solar power plant in Silistra. Once completed, the St. George plant will become Bulgaria’s largest solar power installation, with an estimated annual electricity generation of 313 GWh. This represents approximately 13% of Bulgaria’s projected solar energy output for 2023.

The plant will be constructed on a 165-hectare site of the decommissioned Silistra airfield and will feature around 400,000 solar panels. It is expected to be operational by early 2025 and will have a lifespan exceeding 30 years.
