Bulgaria, Production of electricity in the period between 1 January and 4 December 2022 has increased by 7.76 %

According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 4 December 2022 has increased by 7.76 % compared to 2021 and reached 46.64 TWh.

On the other hand, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption decreased in the same period, by 1.52 % reaching a total of 34.97 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 11.67 TWh so far in 2022, 50.1 % more than in the same period in 2021. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 39.52 TWh of electricity in 2022, which is 10.9 % more than in 2021.

The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 25.99 % to 1,475.3 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network increased by 14.9 % to 2,070.5 GWh.
