Bulgaria, Production of electricity in Bulgaria in the first ten months of 2021 has increased by 15.13 %

According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 31 October 2021 has increased by 15.13 % compared to the same period in 2020 and reached 38.25 TWh.

In addition, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption rose in the same period, by 4.99 % reaching a total of 31.71 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 6.54 TWh so far in 2021, 116.42 % more than in the same period in 2020. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 31.11 TWh of electricity in 2021 so far, which is 12.9 % more than in 2020.

The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network dropped by 5.46 % to 1,061.9 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network decreased by 1.77 % to 1,656.3 GWh.
