Bulgaria, Production of electricity in Bulgaria in 2021 has increased by 13.68 %

According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 3 October 2021 has increased by 13.68 % compared to the same period in 2020 and reached 34.67 TWh.

In addition, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption rose in the same period, by 4.53 % reaching a total of 28.8 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 5.87 TWh so far in 2021, 99.32 % more than in the same period in 2020. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 27.99 TWh of electricity in 2021 so far, which is 10.98 % more than in 2020.

The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network dropped by 6.47 % to 974.8 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network decreased by 2 % to 1,533.8 GWh.
