Bulgaria: Lower electricity production in 2020

In the period between 1 January and 16 August 2020, production of electricity in Bulgaria has decreased by 8.18 % compared to the same period in 2019 and reached 25.57 TWh, according to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO.

Bulgaria’s electricity consumption dropped as well in the same period, by 3.9 % reaching a total of 23.23 TWh. Electricity exports dropped by 15.13 % in the same period to 4.83 TWh, while imports of electricity rose by 23.65 % to 2.48 TWh. The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 15.57 % to 882.2 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network increased by 9.09 % to 1,307.4 GWh.
