Bulgaria: Kozloduy nuclear power plant plans to submit site selection application for Unit 8

The Chairman of the Bulgarian Nuclear Regulatory Agency (BNRA), Tsanko Bachiyski, announced that the project company NPP Kozloduy-New Builds plans to submit a site selection application for the construction of Unit 8 at the Kozloduy nuclear power plant by late February or early March.

Bachiyski emphasized that the BNRA maintains ongoing communication with the project company regarding the development of additional units at the plant. The most recent meeting occurred on February 11, during which NPP Kozloduy-New Builds confirmed its intention to submit the site selection application.

The current stage of the licensing process requires the submission of a site selection application. Once the site is proposed, the BNRA will begin its review and may issue an order to approve the location for Unit 8. Although the site for Unit 7 has already been approved, a new site selection application is necessary to evaluate the feasibility of constructing another unit in the same area.

Regarding Unit 7, NPP Kozloduy-New Builds is expected to apply for design approval next year.
