Bulgaria: Electricity production reached 10 TWh in 2024

Electricity generation in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 31 March 2024 has decreased by 17% compared to 2023, to 10.14 TWh, according to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO. 

In the same period, electricity consumption decreased by 2.4% reaching 10.41 TWh. Electricity imports amounted to 275 GWh.

Baseload power plants produced 8.19 TWh of electricity in 2024, which is 22.3% less than in 2023. The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources in the transmission network rose by 38.01 % to 630 GWh, while RES share in the distribution network increased by 17.16 % to 640.1 GWh.
