Bulgaria: Electricity generation reached 19.4 TWh in 2023

 

Between 1 January and June 18 2023, electricity production in Bulgaria decreased by 22% compared to the same period in 2022, reaching 19.44 TWh. Electricity consumption decreased in the same period by 5.5% reaching 17.7 TWh.

Surplus electricity amounted to 1.7 TWh in 2023, 73% less than in 2022. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 15.75 TWh of electricity in 2023, which is 25% less than in 2022, according to the data published by electricity transmission system operator ESO.

The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources in the transmission network rose by 26% to 949.5 GWh, while RES share in the distribution network decreased by 1% to 1,07 GWh.
