Production of electricity in Bulgaria in 2023 has decreased by 18% compared to same period last year and reached 14 TWh, according to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO.
Bulgaria’s electricity consumption the period between 1 January and 16 April also decreased, by 5% and reached 12 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 1.6 TWh in 2023, 60% less than in 2022.
Baseload power plants (coal and nuclear) produced a total of 12 TWh of electricity in 2023, which is 18% less than in 2022.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources in the transmission network rose by 10% to 547 GWh, while RES share in the distribution network decreased by 5% to 649 GWh.
