Bulgaria cuts wholesale gas price by 14.2% for May 2025

The Bulgarian Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (KEVR) has approved a 14.2% reduction in the wholesale price of natural gas for May 2025. The new price stands at approximately €32.90 per megawatt-hour (MWh), excluding VAT and excise duties. This marks the second consecutive monthly decrease, following a 14.3% cut in April.

The price reduction is driven in part by the inclusion of the full volume of Azeri natural gas delivered via the Bulgaria-Greece Interconnector (IGB), under the country’s long-term supply agreement with Azerbaijan. These supplies continue to play a significant role in maintaining stable and competitive prices on the Bulgarian market.

For May, Bulgargaz has also secured liquefied natural gas (LNG) deliveries under pre-existing agreements with international traders. These arrangements followed a recent tender that outlined minimum delivery prices and preferred payment terms.

The contracted volumes will fully cover Bulgargaz’s supply obligations for May, ensuring uninterrupted service to end suppliers, district heating companies, and industrial customers under existing bilateral contracts.
