Bulgaria: Bulgartransgaz achieves 100% capacity at Chiren underground gas storage ahead of winter

Bulgarian natural gas transmission system operator Bulgartransgaz has announced that its Chiren underground gas storage facility has reached full technical capacity, standing at 100%.

In compliance with EU Regulation 2017/1938, which mandates that gas storage facilities in EU countries must be at least 90% full by November 1 each year, Bulgaria has successfully met this requirement ahead of schedule for the second consecutive year. The Chiren facility is crucial for the energy security of Bulgaria and the wider South East Europe region, ensuring a reliable natural gas supply for the upcoming heating season.

Currently, a total of 12 companies are utilizing the Chiren facility for gas storage, including seven Bulgarian firms and five international entities.
