Bulgaria, Bulgargaz purchased all additional quantities of natural gas for September

According to Balkan Gas Hub (BGH), state-owned gas supplier Bulgargaz purchased all additional quantities of natural gas it needed for the month of September, namely 11,300 MWh per day.

The statement from BGH said that the auction, held on 12 August, attracted exceptional interest and that 43 registered gas traders have participated in the bidding process.

Caretaker Minister of Energy Rossen Hirstov also confirmed that the auctions were successful and the Bulgargaz secured all needed quantities at very favorable price, without providing further details. He added that it is expected that Bulgaria will start receiving additional quantities of gas from Azerbaijan via new interconnector as of 1 October.

According to the Association of Bulgarian Employers’ Organizations (AOBR), Bulgargaz launched the auction on 12 August at a starting price of 194.3 euros/MWh.

Last week, Bulgargaz announced another auction for 16 August for additional gas deliveries for the fourth quarter of 2022. Bulgargaz is calling for up to 42,000 MWh per day for October, up to 61,000 MWh per day for November and up to 72,000 MWh per day for December, to be supplied to the Bulgarian virtual trading point (VTP) with quantities varying up to 20 % more or less on a daily basis.
