Bosnia: Elektroprijenos commissioned new 110 kV transmission line

Elektroprijenos BIH, the company which manages the electricity transmission system of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), has commissioned 110 kV Kupres-Tomislavgrad transmission line, in order to increase the security of electricity supply in the area.

The statement from the company said that the wider area saw significant increase in electricity consumption in the past few years, mainly due to the development of winter tourism and the planned construction of several wind farms. The investment in the construction of this 32.6 kilometers long transmission line was about 2.2 million euros.

By completing the construction of this transmission line, Elektroprijenos BiH closed the investment cycle started with the construction of 110 kV Kupres substation and the new section of the existing 110 kV Bugojno-Kupres transmission line, thus raising the electricity network from 20 to 110 KV.

In May, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said that it is considering providing a loan worth 20.1 million euros to Elektroprijenos BIH for the project for modernization and upgrade of telecommunications system within the company. The statement from the Bank said that the project is critical to the ongoing process of regional market integration and it will lead to improvements in cross-border trade and allocation of power transmission capacity through the improved ability to manage the transmission network that the modernized and upgraded telecommunications system will deliver. The estimated cost of the project is about 23.6 million euros.
