Bosnia and Herzegovina’s power utility is going to build 200 MW in solar power in the next 5 years

Bosnia has the plan to build its future solar power plants at the sites of the exhausted former coalmines. General Director of Bosnian power utility EPBiH Admir Andelija said that company plans to build 200 MW in solar power plants by 2025. Andelija also reminded that EPBiH is also investing in wind power, that the company is currently building 48 MW Podvelezje wind farm, while preparations for Vlasic wind farm are about to start. Podvelezje should enter trial operation by the end of the year, which means that the start of commercial operation is expected in the first half of 2021.

Regarding coal-fired plants, Andelija said that EPBiH will not give up the project for the construction of 300 MW unit 8 at TPP Kakanj, adding that unit 7 at TPP Tuzla should be completed in 56 months, in accordance with the project schedule.

EPBiH has the obligation to comply with the Energy Community treaty that envisages a decrease of polluting emissions into the air by between 60 and 95 %, compared to their current values. The company will also comply with the rules of the Energy Community which envisage reducing CO2 emissions to zero by 2050, which means that it will phase-out some of its coal-fired units.
