Bosnia and Herzegovina’s energy production trends: November 2024 overview

In November 2024, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s gross electricity production totaled 1,425 GWh, slightly lower than the 1,426 GWh recorded in the same month the previous year. The distribution of electricity generation was as follows: hydropower plants contributed 30.9%, thermal power plants accounted for 64%, and renewable sources such as solar and wind made up 5.1%.

Hydropower plants produced a net output of 437 GWh in November 2024, a decrease of 27.6% compared to November 2023. On the other hand, thermal power plants generated 817 GWh, marking a 14.9% increase from the previous year. Electricity generated from renewable sources, including wind and solar, amounted to 72 GWh.

Electricity imports saw a 5.3% increase, rising to 319 GWh in November 2024, compared to 303 GWh in November 2023. However, exports decreased by 19.5%, dropping to 550 GWh from 683 GWh in the same month last year.

In terms of coal production, Bosnia and Herzegovina produced 520,000 tons of lignite in November 2024, which is a 4.2% increase compared to November 2023. The production of brown coal also rose by 14.9%, reaching 502,000 tons.

Additionally, natural gas imports increased by 20.2%, with the country importing 29.98 million cubic meters in November 2024, up from 24.94 million cubic meters in the same month last year.
