Bosnia and Herzegovina sees surge in electricity output and renewable energy generation in April 2025

According to the Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the country produced a total of 1,205 GWh of electricity in April 2025, marking an increase from 1,015 GWh recorded in April 2024.

Hydropower plants accounted for 38.2% of the gross electricity production, thermal power plants contributed 53%, while solar and wind power made up the remaining 8.8%.

Net production from hydropower plants reached 443 GWh in April 2025, representing a 29% increase compared to the same month last year. Thermal power plants produced 568 GWh, up by 2.3% year-on-year. Generation from renewable sources such as wind and solar reached 106 GWh, more than doubling with a 103.8% increase compared to April 2024.

Electricity imports in April 2025 decreased by 2.6%, amounting to 408 GWh, down from 419 GWh the previous year. On the other hand, electricity exports rose significantly by 37.4%, reaching 669 GWh compared to 487 GWh in April 2024.

Lignite production in April 2025 totaled 612,000 tons, showing a sharp increase of 98.7% compared to the same period last year. In contrast, brown coal production declined by 18.4%, amounting to 381,000 tons.

Natural gas imports stood at 17.43 million cubic meters in April 2025, a 12.7% rise from 15.46 million cubic meters imported in April 2024.
