Bosnia and Herzegovina sees mixed energy output trends in June 2025

According to the Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), gross electricity production in June 2025 totaled 1,000 GWh, compared to 1,028 GWh in the same month last year. Hydropower plants accounted for 26.4 percent of total gross production, thermal power plants for 63.5 percent, and solar and wind power plants for 10.1 percent.

Net production from hydropower plants reached 251 GWh in June 2025, down 17.2 percent year-on-year. Thermal power plants generated 569 GWh, a decrease of 5.2 percent compared to June 2024. Electricity production from wind and solar sources reached 101 GWh, marking a 98 percent increase over the same period last year.

Electricity imports fell by 20.6 percent to 375 GWh in June 2025 from 472 GWh a year earlier, while exports declined by 14.5 percent to 525 GWh, compared to 614 GWh in June 2024.

Lignite production in BiH amounted to 392,000 tons in June 2025, down 21.4 percent from the same month last year, while brown coal production increased by 13.6 percent to 510,000 tons.

Natural gas imports stood at 8.74 million cubic meters in June 2025, which is 2.5 percent higher than the 8.53 million cubic meters recorded in June 2024.
