Bosnia and Herzegovina sees 24% drop in August 2025 electricity production

Gross electricity production in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) in August 2025 reached 457 GWh, which is 24.2% lower compared to August 2024, when it amounted to 603 GWh.

In total gross electricity production, hydropower plants contributed 28.45%, thermal power plants 62.8%, and wind farms 8.75%.

Net electricity production totaled 421 GWh, with hydropower plants producing 126 GWh, thermal power plants producing 255 GWh, and wind farms generating 40 GWh.

Electricity imports in August 2025 amounted to 172 GWh, compared to 147 GWh in the same month last year. Electricity exports reached 168 GWh, up from 135 GWh in August 2024.

Brown coal production in August 2025 was 292,095 tons, a decrease of 19.2% compared to 361,469 tons produced in August 2024. Lignite production increased to 139,295 tons in August 2025, compared to 126,120 tons in August 2024, marking a 10.4% rise. Coke production totaled 26,706 tons, down 22.2% from 34,324 tons in August 2024.
