Bosnia and Herzegovina: Republic of Srpska urged to raise electricity prices to ensure energy stability

The Ministry of Energy and Mining of the Republic of Srpska (RS) has received an analysis on the financial and operational state of state-owned power utility ERS, highlighting the urgent need for an electricity price increase to maintain system stability.

The report recommends implementing the new pricing by mid-2025, with ERS justifying the adjustment through necessary investments in existing infrastructure and the construction of new energy facilities. To secure the region’s energy stability, electricity prices for end consumers should be raised no later than 1 July 2025.

The proposed adjustment will be based on a review of business performance after the first quarter and an overall assessment of the energy system’s condition.

Despite the increase, ERS’s electricity prices would remain lower than those of other regional utilities. Currently, public supply electricity prices stand at 49 euros/MWh for Bosnia’s EPBiH and 51.24 euros/MWh for Serbia’s EPS, ensuring ERS remains one of the most affordable providers in the region.
