Distribution companies in the Republic of Srpska (RS) have formally requested a 40% hike in the electricity distribution network fee. Vladislav Vladičić, Chairman of the Regulatory Commission for Energy (RERS), confirmed that the proposal has been submitted. The Commission’s next meeting is scheduled for July 31, but it is still uncertain if the fee increase will be discussed then.
The potential impact of this increase on household electricity bills has not yet been determined. Consumers will need to wait for RERS’s decision and any related analysis on bill adjustments.
Earlier in the year, ERS General Director Luka Petrović warned that 2024 and 2025 would be very challenging for the state-owned power utility, highlighting that any rise in electricity prices would depend on cost-saving efforts within the company.
However, shortly afterward, RS Prime Minister Radovan Višković declared there would be no increase in electricity prices during the current year. A compromise seems to have been reached: instead of raising electricity prices directly, only the distribution fee—last adjusted in 2022—may be increased.
