Bosnia and Herzegovina: HPP Dabar construction advances with 66 million euros planned for 2025 and strong power output for RS

As part of the ongoing construction of the Dabar hydropower plant, planned work for this year is valued at 66 million euros. Danilo Ilic, the director of the project company, explained that current activities include construction on the power plant building, switchyard, Grebak embankment, and the access road to the Vranjaca embankment. Additionally, preparations have begun for excavating the steel pipeline leading to the power plant building.

Excavation at the Poscenje dam is 90% complete, though high water levels in the Zalomka River are hindering its finalization. The project for the canal and tunnel is also in its final stages, with work expected to begin in May. The total contract value with the Chinese company Gezhouba is 224 million euros, and the project is progressing according to schedule. For this year, 66 million euros worth of work is planned, with 15% of the advance payment already made. All necessary equipment, including turbines and steel for the pipeline, has been ordered.

Once completed, HPP Dabar will have an installed capacity of 159 MW and an expected annual electricity production of approximately 250 GWh from the plant itself. In addition, the Grancarevo dam will contribute another 270 GWh, bringing the total annual output to over 500 GWh. This will significantly benefit the electricity system of the Republic of Srpska (RS).

HPP Dabar is part of the larger Gornji Horizonti project on the Trebisnjica River, which involves redirecting water into the Bileca lake reservoir. In addition to the Dabar plant, the project also includes the construction of HPPs Nevesinje and Bileca.
