Bosnia and Herzegovina, Gross electricity production reached 1,528 GWh in January

According to Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), gross electricity production in the country amounted to 1,528 GWh in January 2023, compared to 1,682 GWh in the same month last year.

In total gross electricity production hydropower plants participated with the share of 41.9 %, thermal power plants with 55.3 % and solar and wind power plants with 2.8 %.

Net production of hydropower plants amounted to 637 GWh in January 2023, which is by 7.6 % higher than in the same month in 2022. Thermal production amounted to 758 GWh, which is 18.2 % less than last January. Electricity production from renewable sources (wind and solar) reached 43 GWh, 14 % less compared to January 2022.

Electricity imports rose by 52.9 % to 344 GWh in January from last year’s 225 GWh, while exports also rose by 2.1 % to 684 GWh (670 GWh in January 2022).

Production of lignite in BiH amounted to 548,000 tons in January 2023, which is by 1.9 % more compared to the same month last year, while the production of brown coal decreased by 17.3 % and amounted to 425,000 tons.

Natural gas imports in January 2023 amounted to 31.81 million cubic meters, 18.7 % less compared to a year before (39.14 million cubic meters).
