Bosnia and Herzegovina: FBiH sees drop in electricity production in June 2025 amid rising coal output and imports

In June 2025, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) recorded a gross electricity production of 471 GWh, marking a decrease of 8.4% compared to June 2024, when production reached 514 GWh.

Hydropower plants contributed 29.51% to the total gross electricity production, thermal power plants accounted for 62.63%, and wind farms made up 7.86%.

Net electricity production for the month was 424 GWh. Of this, 126 GWh came from hydropower plants, 261 GWh from thermal power plants, and 37 GWh from wind farms.

Electricity imports increased significantly, totaling 227 GWh in June 2025, compared to 126 GWh in the same month of the previous year. Exports also rose, reaching 156 GWh, up from 92 GWh in June 2024.

In terms of fuel production, brown coal output stood at 290,203 tons in June 2025, reflecting a 1.1% increase from 287,047 tons in June 2024. Lignite production rose by 11.2%, reaching 131,644 tons, compared to 118,396 tons a year earlier. On the other hand, coke production declined by 5.2%, amounting to 33,520 tons, down from 35,364 tons in June 2024.
