Bosnia and Herzegovina, EPBiH has signed a 30-year concession agreement with the Government the construction of two solar power plants

Bosnian state-owned power utility EPBiH has signed a 30-year concession agreement with the Government of Central Bosnia Canton for the construction of two solar power plant with combined installed capacity of 50 MW.

According to the company, it will invest 30.7 million euros in the construction of solar power plants Gracanica 1 and Gracanica 2 in Bugojno municipality, which should be completed within 30 months.

Cantonal Government launched a tender for awarding two 30-year concessions in early March.

In an effort to increase its RES portfolio, EPBiH plans to build solar power plants on the ash deposits of its coalmines Kreka, Breza and Kakanj, and its coal-fired TPP Tuzla by 2030.

Solar generation is still in its infancy in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Last year, the Government of the Republic of Srpska (RS) signed a concession agreement with EFT Group on the construction of 50 MW solar power plant near Bileca. State-owned power utility ERS is also planning to build a large- scale solar power plant near Trebinje, but recently downscaled the project’s output from 100 to 73 MW.
