Bosnia and Herzegovina: Due to pipeline leakage gas supply to FBiH will be temporarily suspended

There was a gas leak on the main pipeline Sepak-Zvornik-Sarajevo. Bosnian gas distributor and imported operating in the Republic of Srpska (RS) Gas Promet informed its counterpart from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) BH-Gas that there was a gas leak.

The inspection determined that urgent repair and the replacement of a three-meter-long pipe is needed, which will lead to a complete suspension of natural gas transit from 5 February. The suspension will last for at least 24 hours.

BH-Gas informed heating plants to use alternative fuel because the company will not be able to supply natural gas for their operation. If the suspension lasts more than a day there will be serious disruptions in the supply because FBiH does not have a gas storage facility.

The main gas pipeline that delivers natural gas from Serbia is the only supply route for FBiH. The pipeline is 40 years old and poorly maintained, so supply interruptions are fairly common. This is the reason why FBiH Government is mulling the project for the construction of Southern Gas Interconnection with Croatia. With the new pipeline, FBiH will have an alternative gas supply route.
