Bosnia and Herzegovina: August gross electricity production

In August, gross electricity production in Bosnia and Herzegovina amounted to 1,320 GWh, compared to 1,483 GWh in the same month last year, according to Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).

In total gross electricity production hydropower plants participated with the share of 18.9 %, thermal power plants with 79.3 % and solar and wind power plants with 1.8 %. Net production of hydropower plants amounted to 248 GWh in August 2020, which is 34.6 % less than in the same month in 2019. Thermal production amounted to 943 GWh, which is 4 % less than last August. Electricity production from renewable sources (wind and solar) reached 23 GWh. Electricity imports rose to 231 GWh in August from last year’s 214 GWh, while exports dropped by 7.3 % to 597 GWh (644 GWh in August 2019). Production of lignite in BiH amounted to 685,000 tons in August 2020, which is 4.6 % more compared to the same month last year, while the production of brown coal also increased by 4.6 % and amounted to 519,000 tons. Natural gas imports in August 2020 amounted to 6.837 million cubic meters, which is 16.8 % less than a year before.
