Albania, Voltalia launched the construction of the Karavasta solar park, with a capacity of 140 MW

French renewable energy company Voltalia announced on Friday that it is starting construction of a 140 MW photovoltaic park in the Albanian coastal area of Karavasta.

According to the fifteen-year contract, Voltalia will sell half of the electricity produced in the solar park to the Albanian public network operator, covering the needs of 220,000 inhabitants and enabling savings of over 96,500 tons of CO2 per year, the company announced.

The remaining electricity will be sold through long-term contracts with private operators.

The solar power plant is expected to be commissioned in the second half of 2023.

In 2020, Voltalia signed a 30-year concession agreement with the Albanian government for the construction and management of the Karavasta solar power plant. The value of the project is estimated at 128 million euros.

Voltalia also won the tender last year to build and operate a 100 MW solar park in the Spitalla area, near the port city of Durrës.
