Albania, Spanish Enagas considering acquiring stake in Albgaz

Spanish natural gas transmission system operator said that it is considering acquiring a stake in its Albanian counterpart Albgaz. However, the company did not disclose regarding the percentage of stake in Albgaz it is interesting in obtaining.

The statement from the company said that it has signed an agreement on strategic cooperation with Albgaz, with the potential of acquiring a stake in the Albanian gas TSO and possible engagement in joint projects.

The company also said that it will further assess its participation in natural gas and renewable gas projects in Albania and wider Mediterranean region.

Last year, the two companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation of the development of gas infrastructure in Albania.

Enagas holds 16 % stake in Trans-Adriatic (TAP) gas pipeline, which carries natural gas from Azerbaijan to Italy, via Turkey, Greece and Albania.
