Albania, Six bidders advance to second round of country’s first wind tender

Albanian Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure announced that six bidders have qualified for the second round of the country’s first tender for the construction of onshore wind farms with total capacity of 100 MW.

Two consortia and four individual bidders have been selected among 17 candidates who submitted their offers. The bidders qualified for the second round are: local companies Ayan and Salillari and Turkish Guris and Morgan Energy as two consortia, French Total Eren and Voltalia, Austrian Verbund and Turkish Eksim Yatrin Holding as individual bidders.

The tender was launched in June 2021, with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The statement from the Ministry said that potential investors can apply onshore wind projects with capacity between 10 and 75 MW, and in case of increased interest, the total capacity may be increased to 150 MW in the second stage.

The winning investors are expected to be announced in June 2023, while the wind farms should be commissioned by the end of 2025.
