Albania: Floating solar power plant could get a loan from EBDR

The project for floating solar power plant in Albania might get financial help -the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said that it is considering supporting the Albanian state-owned Power Corporation KESH regarding the project for the floating solar power plant.

The bank said in a statement that it may cover the project’s cost of 9.75 million euros with a secured loan provided to a special purpose vehicle established for the development of this project.

In late 2018, The Albanian Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure said that KESH has applied for the construction permit for a floating solar power plant with installed capacity of 12.9 MW in the northern part of the country. It is planned that solar panel will float on the water reservoir of hydropower plant Vau te Dejes. The electricity produced by this solar park will be sold on the free market and electricity transmission system operator OST has already agreed in principle on the connection of the future plant to the national transmission network.

In early 2020, Albanian Energy Regulatory Agency (ERE) decided that the purchase price of electricity produced by floating solar power plants will be 100 euros/MWh. Norwegian Statkraft is also developing a floating solar power plant with 2 MW output on the reservoir of its HPP Banja.
