Albania, Electricity production in the third quarter of 2021 amounted to 2,371 GWh

According to the data published by Albanian Institute of Statistics (INSTAT), electricity production in the third quarter of 2021 amounted to 2,371 GWh, which is 82.5 % higher compared to the same period last year (1,280 GWh).

The country’s electricity exports rose in the July- September 2021 period and amounted to 323 GWh, compared to 139 GWh in the same period in 2020, while electricity imports rose to 975 GWh from last year’s 666 GWh. About 76.3 % of Albania’s electricity in the third quarter of the year was generated by state controlled hydropower plants, 22.7 % by independent producers and 1 % by other producers.

Electricity network losses increased by 5 % in July -September 2021 period to 343.4 GWh, with a rise in distribution losses (298.5 compared to 286.3 GWh in Q3 2020), as well as in transmission losses to 44.9 GWh from last year’s 38.4 GWh.
