Albania, Electricity production in the Q1 2022 amounted to 2,016 GWh

According to the data published by Albanian Institute of Statistics (INSTAT), electricity production in the first quarter of 2022 amounted to 2,016 GWh, which is 39.7 % lower compared to the same period last year (3,344 GWh).

The country’s electricity exports dropped in the January-March 2022 period and amounted to 373 GWh, compared to 1.147 GWh in the same period in 2021, while electricity imports rose to soared to 715 GWh from last year’s 99 GWh. Almost all of Albania’s electricity in the first quarter of the year was generated by hydropower plants, with about 52.8 % of that amount produced by state- controlled HPPs.

Electricity network losses decreased by 5.5 % in January-March 2022 period to 582.7 GWh, with a drop in distribution losses (535 compared to 542.7 GWh in Q1 2021), as well as in transmission losses to 47.7 GWh from last year’s 74.1 GWh.
