Albania, Electricity production in 2021 amounted to 8,963 GWh

According to the data published by Albanian Institute of Statistics (INSTAT), electricity production in 2021 amounted to 8,963 GWh, which is 68.7 % higher compared to the previous year (5,313 GWh).

The country’s electricity exports rose significantly in 2021 and amounted to 2,800 GWh, compared to 963 GWh in 2020, while electricity imports fell to 2,253 GWh from 3,239 GWh in the previous year. About 59.6 % of Albania’s electricity was generated by state controlled hydropower plants, 39.9 % by independent producers and 0.5 % by other producers.

Electricity network losses increased by 9.5 % in 2021 to 1,784.9 GWh, with a rise in distribution losses (1,557 GWh compared to 1,458.4 GWh in 2020), as well as in transmission losses to 227.9 GWh from 172.2 GWh in 2020.
