Albania: Electricity exchange ALPEX sees decrease in trading volume in January 2025

The Albanian Electricity Exchange (ALPEX) reported that the total electricity traded in its day-ahead market for January 2025 reached 100.8 GWh. This marks a 9.4% decrease compared to December 2024 and an 18.3% decline compared to January 2024.

Of the total traded volume, 54.8 GWh was for the Kosovo bidding zone, while 60.4 GWh was for the Albania bidding zone. Both zones had an average market clearing price of 146.43 euros/MWh, reflecting a 3.3% drop from December’s prices.

ALPEX, established in October 2020 by Albania’s electricity transmission system operator OST and its counterpart in Kosovo, KOSTT, conducted its first auction in Albania in April 2023. Currently, ALPEX has 36 members from the bidding zones of both Albania and Kosovo.
