Italy and Albania have formalized a new partnership aimed at strengthening the electricity network in northern Albania, a region still dealing with infrastructure issues caused by the 2019 earthquake.
Albanian Energy Minister Belinda Balluku stated that the initiative will help provide more reliable electricity to the affected areas and contribute to broader goals of regional development, improved safety, and long-term energy sustainability.
The 2019 earthquake had a profound impact on the country. While the coastal city of Durres suffered the most severe damage, significant destruction was also recorded in the northern areas, particularly in Lac and Lezhe.
