Romania: New 130 MW PPC solar power plant near Bucharest now fully operational

PPC Group has commissioned a new 130 MW solar power plant in Romania, located in the Călugăreni area approximately 40 kilometers south of Bucharest. The facility was recently connected to the national grid and is now fully operational.

The plant is expected to produce more than 193 GWh of electricity annually, enough to supply over 48,500 households. Its operation will also prevent an estimated 116,000 tons of CO₂ emissions each year, supporting Romania’s wider decarbonization objectives.

PPC Group’s Deputy CEO for Renewables, Konstantinos Mavros, said the project reflects the company’s long-term strategy to become a major energy player in Southeastern Europe. He noted that the new facility strengthens PPC’s growing presence in Romania’s renewable sector and emphasized the company’s continued expansion across both regions and technologies. This approach aims to maximize opportunities arising from the green transition and regional market integration.

The new solar plant is part of a broader cooperation between PPC Group and Metlen Energy & Metals. Under their existing partnership, the two companies plan to complete a total of 460 MW of solar capacity by the end of the year.
