Croatia: CROPEX electricity trading down 8.3% in August, prices fall sharply

In August 2025, a total of 1,187,630.1 MWh of electricity was traded on the Croatian energy exchange CROPEX, representing an 8.3 % decrease compared to July. Of this, 948,126.6 MWh was traded on the day-ahead market and 239,503.5 MWh on the intraday market. Compared to August 2024, total traded volume was down by 8.8 %.

The average daily baseload price on the day-ahead market stood at 78.65 euros/MWh, 23.7 % lower than in July, while the average euro-peak price fell by 37.6 % to 55.94 euros/MWh. On the intraday market, the average price was 78.87 euros/MWh, down 22.7 % from the previous month.

CROPEX had 33 registered participants on the day-ahead market in August, unchanged from July, with 31 of them also active on the intraday market. The average daily traded volume on the day-ahead market reached 30,584.7 MWh.

CROPEX was launched on 11 March 2016 in cooperation with Nord Pool and is co-owned by the Croatian transmission system operator (HOPS) and the Croatian electricity market operator (HROTE). The intraday market began operations in April 2017. On 19 June 2018, the CROPEX day-ahead market was successfully coupled with the Multi-Regional Coupling (MRC) markets through the Croatian-Slovenian border.
