Bosnia and Herzegovina: EPBiH introduces three-tier electricity tariff system for households

State-owned power utility EPBiH has introduced a new household electricity billing system, following a decision by the Energy Regulatory Commission of the Federation of BiH (FERK). The change took effect on 1 September 2025 and charges consumers according to three block tariffs.

Under the new structure, the green tariff applies to monthly consumption of up to 350 kWh, the blue tariff covers usage between 351 and 1,000 kWh, and the red tariff is applied to all consumption above 1,000 kWh.

To ensure an accurate transition, the distribution operator is carrying out an extraordinary meter reading to separate consumption before and after the change. This process involves 741,000 meters across the country and poses a significant logistical challenge.

EPBiH has noted that not all meters can be read on 1 September due to access issues and limited resources. Households that usually report their own readings are encouraged to continue doing so, while others are advised to record their meter status themselves on the day the new tariffs come into effect.
