Bosnia and Herzegovina: Bosanski Brod oil refinery reports €15.3 million net loss in first half of 2025

The financial report for the first half of 2025 shows that the Bosanski Brod oil refinery incurred a net loss of €15.3 million, increasing its total accumulated losses to approximately €467 million.

During the first six months of 2025, turnover rose to €13.3 million, up €5.1 million compared to the same period last year. However, operating costs increased by €8.2 million, from €20.5 million to €28.6 million. This imbalance contributed to an additional €2.2 million increase in the half-year loss.

The workforce continued to shrink, with 314 employees as of mid-2025, down by ten compared to the previous year. Despite the reduction in staff, spending on wages, benefits, and other personnel costs rose by €0.26 million year-on-year, reaching €2.56 million.

If current trends continue, the refinery’s accumulated deficit may soon surpass €500 million.

The Bosanski Brod refinery, along with the Modriča refinery and Nestro Petrol in Banja Luka, are part of the Optima Group, which is majority-owned by NefteGazInkor, a subsidiary of the Russian company Zarubezhneft.
