Solar and wind energy trends in Europe: Record solar output and shifting wind generation in early July

In the first week of July, solar photovoltaic energy production increased in the German, Portuguese, and French markets compared to the previous week. The growth rates were 15% in Germany, 13% in Portugal, and 1.8% in France. On the other hand, Italy and Spain experienced a decline in weekly solar photovoltaic production, with decreases of 8.7% and 7.3%, respectively.

During the same week, the German, Italian, Portuguese, and French markets recorded their highest-ever solar photovoltaic energy generation for a day in the month of July. Germany and Italy reached these milestones on July 1, with 438 GWh and 145 GWh generated, respectively. In Portugal, a record of nearly 29 GWh was set on July 3. France registered its highest daily value for July on July 4, reaching 165 GWh.

Forecasts by AleaSoft Energy Forecasting indicate that during the week of July 7, solar energy generation will rise in Spain but decline in Germany and Italy compared to the previous week.

In the week of June 30, wind energy production increased by 29% in Spain, 26% in Portugal, and 5.4% in France relative to the prior week. In contrast, wind generation fell sharply in Italy and Germany, with declines of 49% and 46%, respectively.

For the second week of July, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting projects that wind energy generation will increase in most of the main European electricity markets. However, Spain is expected to experience a decrease in wind energy production, AleaSoft reports.
