Bulgaria: Electricity production rises by 11.55% in 2025

According to data from the Bulgarian Electricity System Operator (ESO), electricity production in Bulgaria from 1 January to 15 June 2025 increased by 11.55% compared to the same period in 2024, reaching a total of 19.05 TWh.

Electricity consumption in the country also grew during this period, by 7.24% to 18.09 TWh. As a result, net electricity exports amounted to 0.96 TWh in 2025.

Baseload power plants, including coal and nuclear facilities, generated a total of 14.37 TWh of electricity in 2025, marking a 15% rise from the previous year.

The share of renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network jumped by 16.38% to 1,622.7 GWh, while the RES share in the distribution network grew by 22.64% to 1,719.1 GWh.
