Albania approves development of two new solar power plants totaling 54 MW

The Albanian government has greenlit the construction of two new solar power plants with a combined installed capacity of 54 megawatts (MW). Both projects must be completed within 36 months from the date of approval.

The first project involves the development of a 30 MW solar facility in the village of Povelce, located in the Fier District in southwestern Albania. This plant is being developed by local renewable energy company EZ-5 Energy, which was founded in 2019 and already operates a 10 MW solar power plant commissioned in 2021. The new installation is planned to have a 46-year operational lifespan.

The second solar power plant, with a capacity of 24 MW, will be built in Rehove, a village in the Korce District in southeastern Albania. This project is led by GET Solar Solution and is also expected to operate for 46 years.

These approvals mark a significant step in Albania’s efforts to expand its renewable energy capacity and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
