According to the Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), the country produced 1,258 GWh of gross electricity in February 2025, down from 1,384 GWh in the same month of 2024. Hydropower accounted for 29% of the total, while thermal power plants dominated with 66.2%. Wind and solar sources made up the remaining 4.6%.
Net hydropower generation fell significantly to 365 GWh—a 30.9% decrease year-on-year. In contrast, thermal power generation increased slightly by 3.6%, reaching 744 GWh. Renewable sources (solar and wind) contributed 58 GWh, reflecting a 7.4% annual rise.
Electricity imports saw a modest increase of 1.9%, rising to 329 GWh from 323 GWh in February 2024. Meanwhile, exports dropped sharply by 29.4%, falling from 633 GWh to 447 GWh.
In terms of fuel sources, lignite production rose by 11.5% to 483,000 tons, while brown coal output declined by 5.2% to 511,000 tons. Imports of natural gas surged by 20.6%, totaling 29.65 million cubic meters compared to 24.58 million in February last year.
