The installation of a new regasification module at the LNG terminal on the Croatian island of Krk is nearing completion, with operations expected to begin in October. This upgrade will increase the terminal’s maximum annual capacity, doubling it from 3.1 to 6.1 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
An auction for the allocation of these additional regasification capacities over the next 15 years is scheduled for May. LNG Hrvatska, the company managing the terminal, confirmed that the first phase of this expansion will involve offering new regasification capacities for the gas years from 2025/2026 through 2039/2040. These additional volumes will be allocated through an auction set for May 12, organized in collaboration with the PRISMA European Capacity Platform GmbH, a company that specializes in capacity contracting for European gas infrastructure.
Currently, the terminal’s regasification capacity is fully booked for the next 12 years. Since its commercial operations began in January 2021, a total of 117 LNG carriers have docked at the terminal. Approximately 16.4 million cubic meters of liquefied natural gas have been received, and nearly 9.9 billion cubic meters of natural gas have been delivered into the network.
