Montenegro: Alcazar Energy submits EIA for 119 MW Bijela wind farm

The Montenegrin Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced that Vjetro Park Bijela, a subsidiary of Luxembourg-based renewables developer Alcazar Energy, has submitted a request for approval of an environmental impact assessment (EIA) for its 119 MW Bijela wind farm. The EIA covers the planned wind farm development in the northern municipality of Savnik, which will include the installation of a 110 kV transmission line to connect the facility to the national grid.

The Bijela wind farm will feature 17 turbines spread over a 33-hectare area, and the accompanying transmission line will stretch 18.2 kilometers, linking the Brezna substation with the new Bijela substation.

In September 2024, Alcazar signed an agreement with electricity transmission system operator CGES to connect the wind farm to the national network. In January, the company also entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with state-owned power utility EPCG to discuss a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the project.

Construction is expected to begin in 2025, with commercial operations slated for 2027. Alcazar Energy secured the rights to the Bijela wind project in September 2023 through a partnership with local companies Simes Engineering and Sistem MNE, the original developers. The total estimated investment for the project is around 180 million euros.
