Bosnia and Herzegovina: EPBiH reports €29.4 million net loss in 2024

Bosnia’s state-owned power utility, Elektroprivreda BiH (EPBiH), recorded a net loss of approximately €29.4 million in 2024. Despite this, the company saw total revenues reach €654.8 million, marking a 9.9% increase compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, total expenses declined by 10.3% to €685.5 million.

The loss was primarily attributed to reduced coal deliveries from mines throughout the year, unfavorable hydrological conditions, and increased electricity consumption within the distribution network. These factors prevented the realization of planned surplus electricity sales, resulting in higher procurement costs.

Additionally, the report highlights delays in implementing new electricity prices for customers under the public supply service. Initially set to take effect on June 1, the new tariffs were only introduced on August 1.

For comparison, EPBiH reported a significantly higher net loss of €169.5 million in 2023, reflecting an improvement in the company’s financial performance despite ongoing challenges.
